Château des Prés d’Ecoublay
77610 FONTENAY TRESIGNY
A former secular fief which, up until the end of the XXth century, belonged to the Courtenays, after which it passed on to a family from Montceaux. Under Louis XIV, the Canons of the Sainte Chapelle became high court lords of Ecoublay-le-Hardy. The former seigneurial house and Canon’s farm then became the property of the Baron of Perthuis of Laillevalt, in 1879, passing on from Mr. Daniel Wilson who had acquired them in 1846. The latter had requested the artist Delacroix to paint a picture representing Sardanapale (the king of Assyrie in Greek tradition). The back Wing of the Château was specially constructed to house this huge painting… as related in the letters of Delacroix published at Plon.
